"Would you rather select what ads gets added to your pages?"

As of today lots of web services are provided for free but ads are displayed next to the user content.

This is rather annoying. Some services provide a "premium" version of their service where the ads are turned off.

The effectiveness of the mandatory ads is decreasing because site visitors tend to pay little attention to these ads, even when they are selected based on some analysis of the context (content of the page and/or visitor identity).

Things would be different if visitors were to know that the ads were actually somehow "selected" by the site author. There would then be some meaning associated to the ads, versus the current approximate randomness of the ads.

That is what I call "User Generated Ads", to match with the notion of "User Generated Content" that is so tied to the Web 2.0 nature.
